How To Register for the SAT? Step-by-Step Guide With Pictures

Planning to register for SAT? Here is the complete step by step guide with pictures to make registration process a matter of 30 to 40 minutes.

Before diving into detail, let me tell you the basic steps to register for SAT.

  1. Sign Up

  2. Click “Register for SAT”

  3. Update personal info.

  4. Create student profile

  5. Select test & center

  6. Upload photo

  7. Checkout

1. Sign in to the free College Board account. The parent or the counselor can’t register for the student.

2. Go to SAT > Register for SAT

3. Update your personal information. It’s clearly understood, there is no need to elaborate it.

Here, the students need to provide full, legal name and other identifying information and should make sure that the exact same name and other information is shown on the photo ID.

In addition to this, you have to fill GPA/Rank, course work, activities and college plans information in this section.

5. Choose a test date and test center. Choosing the center close to home or Sunday testing is not offered.

6. Upload photo. Candidates must upload their photo which shows only them and no one else. The photo must be identifiable as you on the day of the test.

NOTE: Once the above steps are complete, the students must go through the entire process to avoid any error. 

7. Make the payment

Exam fee should be paid through credit/debit card or PayPal. SAT fee is $52.5 (approx.) plus $42 (Non- U.S Regional Fee).

For Indian nationals, the SAT costs roughly around $94.50 (6000 Rs.).

Subject tests cost lesser. If you are using a fee waiver, enter the identification number on the fee waiver card.

Now the SAT registration is complete, an immediate registration confirmation will be received on email.

Important Points to Note:

  • Registration deadlines are three to four weeks before a test date but the students are encouraged to complete their registration well in advance to ensure that they get a seat at the test center of their choice.

  • Late Registration deadlines are two to three weeks before a test date and will incur the students a late fee.

  • If you have been approved by the College Board to test with accommodations, enter the SSD number on your eligibility letter.

Registration by Mail:

You need to register by mail if you:

  1. Pay by cheque or money order.

  2. Are younger than 13 years old.

  3. Register for Sunday testing for the first time

  4. Request College Board to open a test center near your home

  5. Cannot upload a digital photo as a part of the registration process.

  2. Students from other countries who want to study abroad should make a thorough research as to in which country they want to study because SAT may or may not be required depending on where you want to study.

  3. For studying in best colleges, it is advisable to build a profile with good academic grades, extracurricular activities, etc.

  4. Non-US students should ensure that they have a valid passport. Expired passports or passports in process of being issued are not permitted.
